The Gig Club, created by Stacy Emerson of South Sound Promotions (www.southsoundpromotions.com) is designed to put the artists, the gatekeepers and those who support both, on level ground to network, share knowledge and ideas, inspire and be inspired, and most importantly to form an educated and organized South Sound artist community in which to live, work and prosper.
The Gig Club presents…
10-session Music Business Education Program (MBEP) in Tacoma, WA to be held at Panamonica’s - Tacoma’s new Art-center and Café (www.panamonicas.com) - 1117 Tacoma Ave - Tacoma, WA 98402.
Session #1 - Saturday, March 20th 2004 (7:00 – 10:00 p.m.) with host Doug “Hometown Celebrity” Mackey [/i]will feature a two-part informative lecture and Q&A with music-business consultant, lecturer and author [b}{i}Chris Knab [/b][/i](www.knab.com) who will speak on “The Four Fronts of the Music Business” (Artist & Product Development Front, Promotion Front, Publicity Front and Performance Front).[/b][/i] Chris’s book, Music Is Your Business[/i], will be available for sale and signing during the session. MBEP attendees will be offered early registration opportunity for Chris’ upcoming workshops in Tacoma.
Music Showcase will be provided by Cake Records artists[/i] (www.cakerecords.com) Holly Figueroa, Skip Peri, Kym Tuvim, Brian Webb,[/i] and Sean Campbell[/i], performing a two-part ‘writers-in-the-round’ style showcase – much like that of Austin City Limits or Storytellers.
Throughout the MBEP, panelists and lecturers will address the subjects of:
• Live Music Performance (Originality / Artist Development / Sound / Stage / PA / Touring)
• Agents Roles (Managers / Bookers / Promoters / Producers / Publicists)
• Audio Recording (Studios / Producers / Engineers / Home Recording)
• Music & The Law (Recoupables & Royalties / Label Deals / Distribution Deals)
• Songwriting (Structure / Hits / Rules for Radio / etc…)
• Music Publishing (Copyrighting 101 / Publishers Roles / etc…)
• Radio (How To Get Airplay)
• Press (How To Get Ink) – etc…
We extend an invitation to the South Sound area:
• Musicians
• Studios (producers/engineers)
• Record Labels
• Music Distributors
• Music Duplicators
• Related Retail Stores
• Agents (bookers, promoters, managers)
• Venue Owners & Reps
• Media (Press, Internet, Radio, TV)
