Update.... ROCKRGRL founder CARLA DESANTIS will be speaking with LISA BIRNBACH (remember the "Preppie Handbook?") on her brand new radio show, The Lisa Birnbach Show on GreenStoneMedia.net tomorrow at 8:20AM West Coast Time (that's 11:20 on the East Coast). Tune in and talk back at www.greenstonemedia.net or www.lisabradio.com. Topic: The Women of Rock Star: SuperNova. If you've been checking out my favorite guilty pleasure, Rock Star: SuperNova you'll want to tune in as Carla and Lisa dissect the performances - and chances - of the SuperNova contestants. Topics may include: * Jill Gioia's creative choices and "grinding" Gilby. * Dana's wimpy new tattoo * Storm's stage dive * Zayra's wardrobe * Patrice's unfortunate resemblance to Sheryl Crow Listen LIVE Online as we take time out from World War III to discuss these equally important issues. Ha!! GREENSTONE MEDIA GreenStone Media is radio for women, funded by Gloria Steinem, Rosie O'Donnell and Jane Fonda, among others. Launched in July, it's new, innovative and very cool. This is Carla's second appearance on Lisa's show. Call in (or e-mail) and ask questions. Thanks!! Rock on! Carla

Hello out there in Cyberia! So, did anybody catch Carla on the broadcast? I missed it and am wanting to know the gist of it, not that I couldn't guess.
I've been watching "Rockstar" since day one. It's my t.v. train wreck of the season - just awful but I can't look away!
Love, love, love! Rock on chickadees!!

GIRLFRIEND!! Where have you been? I little birdie whose initials are SE tells me that you are an amazing songwriter.
Did you see - they voted off TWO people tonite on Rockstar:Supernova.
I'm still not sure if it's really a WIN if you end up in a band with Tommy Lee.
Nice to "see" you!!

Hey pretty lady! I've been right here... wondering what you're up to next. I was bummed that I missed your broadcast 'cause I wanna know what you're doing these days. And that little birdie with those initials is very kind to me and surely knows, as I do (and you should, too) that I have a lot to learn - although she's already taught me plenty and any progress I've made this past year is credited to that. Yes, I did see Josh and Jill get the boot. I was stunned but hey, why waste their time? I don't think Josh's "feel" was right for Supernova - too sweet, and I think Magni is, too. As for Jill, I did NOT think "Alone" was a great song choice for her, and unfortunately it showed. Great song, but few can deliver that kind of vocal power and range. ;-) know whadda mean? I can't imagine any of those gals having to tour with those animals - esp T Lee!!! Zayra probably gets ratings - for all the wrong reasons, and I think they keep her as the sideshow, so I won't comment on her singing. Lucas is just annoying (in that little brother way) and the Goth dude hasn't proven anything vocally yet, at least not to me, even though his REM tune would "so get you layed, dude" as T LEE so eloquently put it. The Australian (along with Zayra) was somehow misrouted to the wrong stage door from America's Next Top Model. I'm still rooting for Storm and Dilana, not that I'd wish it on the fate of a wild bore, but the female chauvenist in me just wants the girls team to win - and besides, Dilana will get more women than TL :-> and that is, afterall, what being a rockstar is all about, right? I mean... yeah - which is why I'd rather be a songwriter instead! ¿Y que pasó contigo, mija Carlita?

Not surprised to see Zayra go last night - since it would suck to be in a band with three people that can't pronouce your name (Spanish, dudes, roll your "R"). I am also thinking Dilana has it pretty much in the bag. The guys are just DULL. And even though I am rooting for Storm I think her personality is just too much. You just can't try to be as obnoxious as Tommy Lee!! Dilana seems to "know her place" - doesn't ruffle feathers except with jealousy and would sell the most tickets for these guys. And I FINALLY figured out why I keep thinking Gilby plays bass - he reminds me of Harry Shearer's Spinal Tap character - at least when he makes that move with his head. Seriously, this show is pretty awful and they are ALREADY repeating songs - "Creep" and "Celebrity Skin" - NOT a good sign. Rock is 50 years old - can't they find SOMETHING else? Would love to hear your songs - send me something!! And e-mail me anyhow with info on how to find you and what else is going on in your world. Isn't Shaw Island amazing??? Welcome back to da board. Well, it's about time they let her loose - and I consider that fortunate. Yeah, all the guys are like (snore) and I agree with you - Dilanna's got it - at least I hope.
That's hillarious about Gilby and Spinal Tap - LOL. I'm not going to be able to get that image outta my head. And as for repeating songs, one would think with all the juice flowing behind a show like that they'd have at least one brain among them. Doing the same songs??? That's just sad.
Yeah, Shaw Island is just incredible and I can't wait to go back. That was probably the closest thing I've had to a religious experience. Something about that place just cracked me wide open and these new pieces of me emerged. Are you planning on doing anything there? Would you please let me know if you do?
As for my stuff, Carla, everything before Shaw Island just feels like "blah," so I'm just writing, writing, writing, trying to get better. I've found tons of books on the subject so that may help.
I'm STILL trying to get a girl-band together (noting my years of frustration and sarcasm chronicled on this board) and have found a potential collaborator who knows their way around a studio, but alas, it's a man, so I have to see if he's for real or ;-) whatever.
So, not up to much - just screwing around at all the open mics with new material, and recording - wondering what you're up to.
Looking for bandmates on Craigslist has proven an exhausting near-waste of my time, but I am getting a web site (I'm just not a myspace person) so when I get some tunes up there, I'll send you the link. What about you, up to any musical endeavors? You and I were gonna do a duet or something once. (What happened?)

Oh no. After the last RS: Supernova I can only wonder why they're trying to take Dilana down. Maybe they just really couldn't handle a woman fronting the band. I can't imagine she's the only one in that house saying foolish things (ahhh what we do when we're nervous) but why is the camera ONLY capturing her. Although, she sure did make it easy for them - not that the 3 stooges haven't all made the same silly mistake. I dunno! All my heroes and sheroes have been gracious and kind, thus far. Piteous!

They are totally screwing her over!! It's reprehensible. She is now afraid to be herself. I am hating everything (and everyone) on this show now. Seriously!! I want those hours of my life back!

I don't remember anybody jumping Lukas for mouthing off in the second episode when he was feeling pretty full of himself - and specifically, telling Dilana that she sucked.
This is a fine example of that old double-standard: things men do that are considered cute or assertive vs. the things women do that are considered aggressive and get them punished.
Women it seems, are still not yet fully allowed to be proud of themselves - at least, not out loud. I find it ironic how DN was giving everybody static at first for not acting like they owned or stole the show. I think that's what Dilana was probably trying to do; her way of saying, check me out, I'm not lame like this one or that one - and from watching the show it is obvious that people generally are so braindead that they NEED this pointed out to them.
And did you notice how they did a little home-movie of Lukas.... shooting baskets and putting on makeup. "Yeah, I'm just like everyone else, only with more makeup." (Barf!) It reminded me of a Mariah Carey Christmas video! Gee, can't wait till he gets the boob job and has his nose and eyes tucked and lifted.
I can see where this trainwreck is headed - taken by an avalanche over a big cliff, into a river and then over the falls, when all the fuel on the train explodes, scattering debris for miles.
OK, Carla, I'm going to take the plunge and get on MySpace so that I can keep up with you - it can't possibly be any worse than the indignities suffered at the hands of RS: Supernova, but who knows? (And what rough beast, its hour come round at last, Slouches toward rock music now?)
