Take Ten: ROCKRGRL Celebrates Ten Years with Ten Bands for Ten Bucks
To celebrate its ten year anniversary, ROCKRGRL Magazine is presenting a very special show to benefit the ROCKRGRL Music Conference Scholarship Fund. The party will be held at Neumo's on Wednesday evening, January 12, 2005.
Ten local artists will perform, including Carrie Akre, Kim Virant, XXX Audio, Laura Veirs, Mechanical Dolls, Tart, Free Verse, The Rotten Apples, Betty X and DJ Superjew.
"Most of these bands have appeared in ROCKRGRL at some point over the past ten years," said ROCKRGRL Publisher/Editor-In-Chief and founder Carla DeSantis. "It's exciting to be able to celebrate this milestone with artists that define the whole ROCKRGRL aesthetic of strong, independent women playing music."
Beneficiary of the money raised from the event is the ROCKRGRL Music Conference Scholarship Fund, established to pay all expenses for twenty teen girls from teen centers and music programs outside the area who could not otherwise afford to attend the upcoming ROCKRGRL Music Conference in November 2005.
In addition to the music, ROCKRGRL will also display the winners of our recent Capture the Moment photography contest, which includes work by Jenny Jimenez of Seattle all-female band The Catch. Contest judges included local photographers Bootsy Holler (ROCKRGRL photo editor), Charles Peterson and Alice Wheeler.
There will also be a raffle to win a Daisy Rock electric guitar, a gift certificate from Vain Salon, a gift certificate for meals at West 5, ROCKRGRL merchandise and much more.
The show begins at 9:00 PM at Neumo's. Cover charge is $10.00.
