Hey all. I play guitar, started out early on with clarinet and sax. I record into ProTools and import other tracks from my sessions goofing around in Reason. I'm a techie girl that got into computer music through a friend.. and so few other girls there are. Just wondering if any of you chicas are into this stuff.

Like Maggis mentioned, check out the Backstage Babes Forum. All kind of tech talk going on in there.
I use ProTools and love it! The ProTools hardware sounds great. The software takes a little getting use to but it's cool once you get it.
Maggis: What soundcard thing are you referring to?

Nah. It comes with hardware though -- either a digital mixer or the rack version. The software won't launch unless it recognizes the attached hardware. I have the rack since I already had a mixer. The hardware connects to the computer via firewire. It has 8 ins 8 outs. Four ins are XLR, the rest are 1/4 inch TRS, MIDI ins/outs and sports all the usual digital I/O -- S/PDIF, fiber-optic ADAT, etc.

Damn because I set someone on a mission to get me a crack of it and he's got me three versions I think they all need this hardware you speak of... But I just want to learn how to use it so i can get into the studio stuff... Is there software I can get hold of which'll show me the practical basis of how it works?

Yes, there is a demo version available and it is hardware independent. You don't need anything but a computer. Because it is a free version it has a few limitations -- I think you only get 8 tracks of audio and 48 MIDI tracks -- but otherwise it's fully functional. It will not run on Windows XP -- it will only run on Windows 98/ME and Mac OS systems. Here is the URL for more info and downloading www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/ProTools/ Let me know what you think after you have a chance to use it.
