This post is in response to the previous post asking Hey - Where Are All The Keyboardists??:
There are keyboardists out there. Maybe many of them are hangin with other keyboardists and unfortunately, most of them are guys! I've been playing keys (synths, samplers) since they first hit the market in the early' 80s. Been gigging and using computer-based sequencers over 20 years. I teach music at a local college and own and operate a recording studio. In between teaching, gigging, recording, and composing I write for Rockrgrl Magazine -- Rockrgadgets -- I review gear. I know there are female keyboardists who dig the technical gear as much as I do. When I bought my first synth 25 years ago, there were no other women around so I hung with the guys. I'm not complaining. The guys were awesome musicians and tech-heads which challenged me to perfect my playing and programming chops. They were cool and I dug jamming and hanging with them, but missed networking with other females. I got to know the local music scene quite well and found no other women synth players into the tech-stuff. I felt like a unicorn (one of a kind). Today, our numbers have grown, but still scattered about and probably feeling like we are the only ones doing this. Fortunately, there are more options now for women musicians and more of us.
Peace & Rock On, Gail
