I thought it was horribly sexist when Corin was asked about the females at their shows and her response.
Who cares if there's more guys or girls at a show? Guys aren't going to Sleater-Kinney shows to look at their boobs. They can watch TV for that. It made me sad when Corin said that she didn't like seeing "a sea of baseball caps" at their shows and Janet will refuse to play unless girls come to the front.
The reason why it made me sad is because one of the members of my band who is a guy said that he wants to meet Carrie someday, shake her hand and tell her, "Because of 'All Hands on the Bad One', I learned how to play guitar." He taught himself how to play guitar by listening to an all-female band.
I'd be flattered if anyone, male or female, was inspired by my music. Girls, don't discriminate against your male fans.

I think you missed the point of the question (and perhaps the point of the magazine?). There are very few rock bands that have more FEMALE fans than MALE fans - and Sleater-Kinney is one of the few.
They love their male fans but sometimes the guys crowd to the front and the girls are forced in the back (where many can't even see). That was Corin's point (and mine too as the interviewer).

If girls want to be in the front, they can go to the front.
Also, I thought the point of the magazine was to write about female musicians, not female fans.
I, a female musician, don't care if there's boys or girls watching and whether or not there's more than the other. That was the point of my post.

Actually the whole point of the magazine is not to just write about female musicians but to help create MORE female musicians. What does it take to get more females interested in playing - and not discouraging them?
Some bands have a larger proportion of female fans to male because of the topics they choose to write songs about.
Again, Sleater-Kinney is one of a handful of bands that traditionally has had a larger base of female fans. Therefore I thought it was interesting to ask if the ratio was different for them at arena shows where they opened for Pearl Jam. That was how the question came up in the first place.
