TEXT Hi!!! I'm new! I am a 13 year old girl who is trying to start her own band. I play guitar, harmonica, piano/keyboard, and sing. I don't know what in the world i should be looking for in other people. I also need suggestions on what guitars are the best. I am still playing my dad's old one. I want an electric guitar that has rude tunes. I am thinking of a Daisy Rock. If you have one tell me how they play. Thanks bunches!!!

Stay back from the daisyrock kid. They are evil planks of plywood.
When I was looking for my first proper electric I took several months to try loads of guitars until I found one fell for... So I would suggest doing that because I still love it and would still let and old lady or pregnant woman stand on the bus rather than take a seat from it have only allowed the trust worthy and lucky few to pick it up and play it (after washing their hands) and at one point would have thrown myself off a cliff in violent throws of despair were it to be stolen from me... if you can find a guitar which makes you feel like that you are onto a winner.

I agree...stay away from Daisy Rock. What are the best guitars? That's a matter of opinion but do what Maggis says. TRY THEM ALL OUT and see what feels right and comfortable to you. How much can you spend? Gibson, Fender, Paul Reed Smith are all great guitars, just to name a few but they can be pricey. If you need to keep on a budget then look at Epiphone, Squire, Ibanez. Want "rude tones"....buy a killer distortion pedal.....like a Metal Zone for example. Hope this helps and good luck. www.jeezluweez.com "The chick rock band that will take you by storm"

Just like the guitar, you should go to your local music store and try out the different distortion pedals available. They, just like guitars, come in different styles and price ranges. The "Metal Zone" that I mentioned is made by Boss. They run around $100. Go the website.... www.bossus.com, they have audio samples of all their pedals. www.jeezluweez.com

Aside from a distrotion pedal, an "Overdrive" pedal is great too.... I have the Boss Turbo Overdrive and love it.
In terms of what to look for in other band mates...the most important thing is comradarie. My experience with multiple bands is that if you don't seriously CLICK with the people you're rocking with, the whole thing will suck and fall apart. Look at skill next.

yeah...I would say stau away from the daisy guitars...not because of the plywood...but because of the stereotype...
I play a danelectro bass...I have one of the guitars too...they are cheap...made out of plywood also...but those lipstick pickups have some great tones...
since you play so many instruments..I would reccomend a middle of the road sort of guitar....squire, epiphone, yahmaha...nothing real expensive...I have been through 3 different bands and 3 different instruments...
don't limit yourself to just one thing...go to some shops...try out some instruments and pedals...pick what feels best...
but stay away from the daisy line...those are just a stereotype of what girls are "supposed" to be...precious and flowery...get something that makes you feel good

There are some great suggestions already posted with equipment ideas for you so I'll focus on some suggestions on what to look for in band mates (in no particular order): Playing chops -- I found that if I hung around and/or played with musicians who were better than me, I was motivated to practice my butt off to keep up! :-) Reliability! -- It's a real drag when your bandmates are late or don't show at all. Also, it's a TOTAL drag when they come to band rehearsal unprepared and haven't practiced their parts. A band is a team and all players must be prepared and contributing equally!!! Drugs -- If they are substance dependent, run-don't-walk in the opposite direction! Egos -- Even if they meet all the previous items listed, a big ego can destroy a band. I was fortunate to eventually find a band where everyone kept their egos in check and we all got along famously. We were like a close family; No one thought they were better than the other and we all respected and appreciated the contribution each member made to the whole (the band). When you meet the right musicians you'll know it -- you'll feel it. After you've been doing this for a few years, all these things will come to you and you'll just "know" what to look for and what to avoid. For now, enjoy yourself!! And, good luck in your musical venture. Take it from someone who's been there; in spite of the difficulties -- it's a great ride girl.
