Okay, I consider myself to be a really nice person...but lately it's been driving me crazy that my boyfriend is playing my drums. He's trying to learn guitar, so he's been practicing his guitar, but then whenever he feels stuck he walks over to my drums and plays them and this drives me insane!! Yesterday he broke two of my sticks...am I wrong in getting mad? I have no idea why it's ticking me off so...I wish he would just stick to his guitar and leave the drumming to me...any suggestions as to what I should do, or maybe theories as to why I'm getting irritated? Thanks ahead of time ladies... ~WickedF.D.~

Maybe it irritates you that he doesn't ask first...he just takes it for granted that it's ok to use your equipment. Hey, I'd be mad too, expecially if he broke my stuff! Did he offer to replace your sticks? If not, then you should tell him "hands off" until he can respect your drums and you as a drummer!
PS. That would apply to any of your belongings, not just musical equipment. He should be more respectful and careful.

had to check myself when i read your post because my BF is the drummer and i realized that i do the same thing sometimes. so then of course i have to wonder if he feels the same annoyance as well... need to check with him on THAT asap.
as to whether you are out of line to feel irritated, i can't say and it wouldn't matter anyway if i could say because feelings are what they are and reasoning very rarely makes any difference, at least not in MY head. however i think i can "resonate with a sympathetic vibe" (i am so freaking hilarious) as to the feeling itself, as i feel that way when anyone appears to assume that my musical contribution(s?) are not worthy of any respect, for whatever reason. If you have a casual, off-hand manner towards my STUFF, i feel you must have the same casual, off-hand consideration for my SELF. and that tends to piss me off.
