I remember reading that someone here works with vocalists? or something like that.
Ify ou are still here, i have a question for you.
I am a vocalist and i've noticed that my voice "breaks" a lot now. Moreso if i'm yelling or singing, but sometimes even when i'm normally talking. This has been in the last few months, i've battled a lot of tonsilitis in the last year and had horrible sinus infections for the last few months. maybe this is related?
is there something i should do to stop this? is this something i should see a doctor about?

Hey I'm new to these boards, but I've been studying voice for a good 10 years. I know what you're talking about, and I was having the same trouble myself. I don't know if you've taken voice lessons before, but there are basic things that every singer must remember to do. They seem small- but make all the difference.
1. always warm up- and be gentle. Think of your vocal chords like a muscle that you need to exercise DAILY. You have to warm up- stretch it out- before you go for a run.
2. BREATHE. Breathing is the MOST important thing in singing. It will help your pitch. It will help your phrasing. It will help your energy. Diction. Expression. everrrything. If you want more information about this, you can ask away. I'm happy to help. Another issue could be the shape of your mouth and how you create your vowels when you're singing in higher ranges or if you're yelling n what not. There is a way to yell/scream without ripping your voice to shreds.
3. If you're dealing with allergies and infections, you just have to be super aware and take care of yourself. Drink tons of water. If you have trouble with your sinuses or allergies, go to a eye/nose/throat doctor. They can tell you what's up and prescribe you some Allegra or Nasonex when the seasons change. I use nasonex during trouble seasons and it helps. Post Nasal Drip suuuucks and can knock your voice out if you don't take care of it ASAP. if you have trouble with your tonsils- get that shit taken out. Sure, you'll be out for 3 weeks to a month, but it will be worth it. You'll notice that you'll have less sinus infections and probably wont get as sick as often.
Hope this helps.
